Untranslated lactoferrin gene in cows with single nucleotide polymorphism.

ABSTRACT

 

Hajibemani A, Sharifiyazdi H, Mirzaei A, Ghasrodashti AR., Untranslated lactoferrin gene in cows with single nucleotide polymorphis, Onl J Bioinform., 26 (1): 10-21, 2025. Lactoferrin (Lf) antimicrobial protein is found in uterine discharges of cows and allelic diversity associated with susceptibility to uterine infections. We report single nucleotide polymorphism genes in 5' untranslated region (5'-UTR, position +32) of lactoferrin gene by allele-specific PCR in cows with and without uterine infections. Blood was taken from 89 multiparous Holstein dairy cows with and 38 controls without history of uterine infections. Results suggested presence of polymorphisms (G > C) in 5'-UTR in all cows and allele specific PCR was 100% similar to sequencing. We found no correlation between disease and SNP in 5'-UTR. However we did find difference in mean reproductive parameters of cows without polymorphism compared with SNP in 5'-UTR. Cows with +32:CC genotype and +32:GC genotype SNP in UTR had lower average of services per conception and days open compared with +32:GG genotypes (P < 0.05). However, no significant difference in the calving to first service was found between these genotypes (p > 0.05).
