ABSTRACT

Javdan E, Fayazi J, Baigi Nasiri MT, Tabatabaei S., Polymorphisms in exon 2 of bone morphogenic 15 gene in goats, Onl J Bioinform., 26 (1): 22-30, 2025. Mutations in  bone morphogenetic protein-15 (BMP-15) gene can enhance ovulation and infertility in sheep. We applied PCR-SSCP to determine polymorphisms in BMP15 gene of Najdi and Lori-Bakhtiari goats. From genomic DNA, 235bp fragments of exon 2 of BMP15 gene were amplified with specific primers and assayed by single stranded conformation polymorphism. We found AA genotype with frequency of 0.155, BB 0.167, FF 0.011, DD 0.011, EE 0.123, AD 0.133 and AB with 0.4 in Nadji goats, whereas in Lori Baktiari these values were AA 0.259, BB 0.075, CC 0.037, DD 0.037, AD 0.185 and AB 0.407.  Heterozygosity was 0.533 for Nadji and 0.593 for Lori Baktiari goats. BMP15 gene is associated with folliculo genesis in sheep and thus is a candidate gene for litter size in goats.
