Abstract

Carvajal-Rodríguez A, Rodríguez MG., Morphometric distance for calculating evolution. Onl J Bioinform, 27 (1) :11-18, 2026. For evolution of populations determination of size and shape traits by geometric morphometry programs to evaluate hierarchical structured data or ANOVA to calculate genetic quantitative variation within and between populations can be used. We describe programs to compute centroid size, uniform and non-uniform shape heritable variation at intra and inter-population level. We compute genetic variances of size and shape for half or full sib family by one way ANOVA) and inter-population differences QST by two way ANOVA. We performed two morphometric and genetic samples of Littorina saxatilis periwinkle with 29 and 30 families respectively of 3 individuals/family. Findings suggest non-uniform shape captures effect of natural selection on different ecotypes.

Keywords: Size, shape, quantitative genetic variation.
