phylogenetic analysis of glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase of Bubalus bubalis, Onl J Bioinform., 26 (2) :47-56, 2025. Glucose-6-phosphate
dehydrogenase (G6PD) has a crucial role in fatty acid biosynthesis and
detoxification of organic peroxides and governs de novo synthesis of nucleotides by affecting production of ribose-5-phosphate
through hexose monophosphate pathway. In this study, a 683 bp
fragment of buffalo G6PD gene was amplified, sequenced and characterized. The
deduced amino acid sequence clustered the Bubalus bubalis
G6PD sequence with the other mammalian G6PD proteins into a monophyletic group.
The multiple sequence alignment of the Bubalus bubalis G6PD with the mammalian species clearly
revealed conservation of the substrate and dimer binding sites with the solved
X-ray crystallographic model structure of Homo
sapiens.
